BLAST Conference 2010

The first BLAST Conference will be held at the North Sea Conference Centre in Hirtshals, Denmark, on 15 - 17 September.

At the conference, results achieved so far and planned activities in the BLAST project will be presented.

Outlooks for the Marine and Coastal Environments, Navigation and Safety at Sea, and Knowledge based Integrated Coastal Zone Management will be main themes at the conference. News from related projects will also be presented.

Guest speakers include Lazaros Aichmalotidis from the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), Maureen Kenny, Chair of the Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure Working Group in the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and Sten Jerdenius, Member of the EU Expert Group on Integrated Coastal Zone Management.

Participants will get the chance to visit Hirtshals, which is one of the test-sites in the BLAST project.

– This is a great opportunity for partners to meet and exchange ideas. The conference will also provide participants with an update on the progress made in the first phase of BLAST, says project Chair, Tore Haye.

The registration deadline is September 3, 2010.

This is an open conference.

Land and Sea Model

The Land and Sea model will address the needs of marine spatial planning, environmental protection, socio-economic development, risk management and mitigation, by delivering harmonised land and sea geographic datasets.

Navigating the North Sea

Navigating the North Sea project group will explore practical tools, processes, and applications the North Sea maritime community might use to implement the coming new generation of standards for marine information systems.

Maritime Traffic Harmonisation

The Maritime Traffic Harmonisation project group will work towards improving vessel safety and efficiency, and enhancing management of the environment through the design and development of a regional maritime traffic monitoring platform for the North Sea region.

Climate Change in the Coastal Zone

The Climate Change in the Coastal Zone project group will develop new common policies and instruments that will support coastal zone planning and management (ICZM) under the emerging climate change.
